NYC Data #53: Office of Creative Research, Looker, Spring, Casper, Managed by Q, Deep Learning Best Practices, assertr
Hi friends,
Thank you to everyone who sent in jobs this week: I had a really good number of direct submissions! I hope everyone was able to enjoy some of the nice weekend weather yesterday. As always, please pass along any data positions you need to fill.
Junior Roles
Looker is hiring for a whole host of roles in NYC, including data analysts. The company has been growing really quickly: it's a great opportunity to jump on a rocket ship and work with the great Dan Mintz.
Managed by Q is also looking for a data analyst: I've listed their roles a few times before. I'm a big fan of this team (they use a Python/Redshift/Looker stack, similar to what I work in).
Mid-Level Roles
Our friends at Casper are trying to hire a marketing analyst and a site optimization analyst. I've gotten to know Michelle, Cherry and Scott here over the last year, and they are terrific people to work with.
Code Academy is also looking for a data analyst - I like this site.
Senior Roles
Spring is looking for a Director of Business Intelligence, which sounds like a great gig. They're also hiring for a more junior Data Scientist role, who would get to work with Brian Eoff, which is an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to learn from one of the best in the city.

Good Local Posts
- Jer Thorp did a write-up on the O.C.R and what they do; if you're interested in data & design they're one of the most important groups around. Definitely check out their recent projects listed on the site.
- Max Galka did a really nifty visualization of income by census tract over time in major American cities.
- Tony Fischetti wrote about data validation and the release of assertr 2.0.
- Also, not NYC, but I really liked this deep learning best practice paper out of the Navy Center for Applied Research. Pay special attention to the appendix, which lists which algorithms have been applied to which problems, along with links.
Please pass this email along to any good people you know who might be interested in it. To see previous job listings (many of which are still open!) and blogs, check out the archive.
If you want your job or event or blog post to be included in the next version of this email, or if you have suggestions about how this could be better, please let me know!
