Hi friends - stunningly we’re halfway through the year! I’m traveling next week so no newsletter: have a great Fourth of July and I’ll see you in the middle of the month!
As always, help me keep this space up-to-date: please send me posts, events, and job openings. If you know someone who might enjoy or benefit from this newsletter, please share it with them. [image credit: AP Photo/Bebeto Matthews]
Good Local Posts
As you might have heard, there was a Mayoral primary in NYC this week! The NY Times, as always, has an amazing map. Jalopnik had an interesting take that the candidates’ supporters divided along ‘who took transit vs who drove’. Certainly I remember complaining a lot about Cuomo’s transit policy when he was governor!
Ethan Mollick is my go-to source for all things AI-related, and this week he published Using AI Right Now: A Quick Guide. A great view of the industry.
I don’t know who is behind this NYC Rent Guesser game but it’s hilarious, addictive, and deeply upsetting. Highly recommended!

Miscellany
Mary Meeker, of the famed multi-hundred-page ‘trends’ slide decks, has an AI one out. These are great artifacts and I always learn something paging through them, though they’re truly overwhelming.
Don’t say it too loud, but the NYC economy is growing! I saw this report that three NYC-area counties were in the top 10 (of ~370) for employment growth, and it’s true (BLS data). Wage growth has been very slow though, so I assume this is the return of hospitality and other lower paying jobs more than white-collar growth.
