Who has your vote for mayor of NYC? The primary is on June 24 (early voting starts on June 14). The general election is on November 4, 2025. The City & Gothamist gave 12 candidates a questionnaire: you can take it too to see which candidate’s views line up most closely with your own.
Andrew Gelman recently posted about a subtle but important model evaluation technique: plotting with the prediction (not the observed value) as the independent variable.
Reddit’s engineering team shared details on their Push Notifications Recommender System. I was most interested in the Budgeting step, where they decide on the max number of notifications to send, and whether to override the budget or not for a particularly relevant post. Their model is much more computationally intensive than other recommender systems I’ve worked on, but I suppose that’s the benefit of a ‘push’ system where you don’t have to respond on a sub-second timescale to user requests!
