Also, is OpenAI-o3 AGI?
Hi friends, if you are observing Good Friday, I hope you have a reflective and peaceful day. And of course, a belated Chag Pesach Sameach and early Happy Easter!
As always, help me keep this space up-to-date: please send me posts, events, and job openings. If you know someone who might enjoy or benefit from this newsletter, please share it with them. [image credit: Todd Heisler / NYT]
Good Local Posts
My friends at Bauplan have launched their data platform publicly! Ciro has shown me what they’ve been building a few times and it’s a very elegant product. I’d say more, but Ciro describes better than I could.
Starting May 1, citymeetings.nyc will publish quick‑to‑skim, easy‑to‑share summaries of NYC’s Charter Revision Commission meetings. This is a great step to make it easier for anyone to get involved in city governance. Congrats to Vikram, and cheers to the city for embracing this opportunity!
Arvind Narayanan & Sayash Kapoor, my favorite local AI skeptics, wrote a piece for the Knight Institute on AI as a normal technology. This is a long read, but if you’ve been feeling a bit anxious since reading AI 2027 (as I have!) this is a good antidote.

Miscellany
This State of AI in 10 Charts piece out of Stanford was an interesting light read. Tracking the cost and capabilities of these models over time is wild.
Tyler Cowen thinks OpenAI-o3 is AGI. His commenters mostly disagree, as did my colleagues when I posed the question to them. This inevitably turns into an argument about ‘what is Artificial General Intelligence?’ but suffice it to say the newest generation of models are amazing.
