The biggest data news this week was Meta releasing Llama 3 models. The paper was notable in many ways but I’ll just call out the minor thing I had a big reaction to: there were so many contributors that they put them in the appendix! I counted 525 of them: really shows the investment Meta has made here, and the team’s sophistication.
Aleks Fiuk of Econify wrote about taking Amazon’s Bedrock for a test drive: it’s a good overview of the tool and some details you might need to know while using it.
The election model drama is starting up again 🍿🍿🍿 here’s Andrew Gelman on some of the latest.

Miscellany
I just discovered https://analytics.usa.gov/, which is kind of a bonkers site. As I write this, it says 1,124,991 users on U.S. Federal Government websites and apps in the last 30 minutes, and 45% came from Google!
Carta’s State of startup compensation is a great example of making the most of the data you have. It’s also an interesting read (3,500 words)!
